don’t read this if you don’t like opinions

i was thinking about this on the bus ride this morning because i hear this phrase a lot.

just because you’re from a certain area of the country you shouldn’t think you have the right to use that as an excuse for your actions and/or attitude.

this isn’t a completely formed thought in my head anymore because i’ve had a bit of time between its first conception and now.

the reason i always say i’m from cincinnati is because the immediate reactions i get when i say kentucky are usually KFC, you actually wear shoes?, and do you really go to family reunions looking for dates?. i mean come on people. just because i’m from the south doesn’t mean i talk slow.

blaming your actions on the place you’re from is one of the most pathetic scape goats i’ve ever seen and frankly, it really just shows you’re merely a product of your raising. [yes i know people are going to get angry at about this point but this is merely my opinion so don’t get your panties all up in a bunch]. people aren’t born biggots or racists, they’re made that way by the people that raise them to think like that.

For the most part, I agree with this, but I would say that in some cases, social norms are different in different areas of the country/world and that can affect how you act in certain situations. What might be completely acceptable in, say, Ohio might be backwards and out of line in, say, New York. Not that you should use regional norms as an excuse for your behavior, but you might have to let someone’s behavior slide the first time before the know how things work ‘roun’ dees parts.
